A quicker way to join two paths

To join two separate paths in CorelDRAW you use the Join Curves docker — assuming you know it exists. I'd be curious how many people do. It doesn't turn up unless you already know to go looking for it.

And once you're there, the only way to tell it which points to join is the gap tolerance. So you type a number, nothing happens, you raise it, raise it again — and now it has joined nodes you didn't want joined. There's no way to say "these two, here."

Illustrator handles this with the Join tool (Shift+J — not the Join command on Ctrl+J, which just draws a line between two endpoints). You drag over the nodes you want connected, and it connects them. If the ends overshoot each other it trims them at the intersection as well, which in CorelDRAW means switching to Virtual Segment Delete as a separate step.

None of the underlying geometry is missing here. Join Curves already offers extend, chamfer, fillet and Bézier — more join types than Illustrator's tool has. It just needs to be usable directly on the canvas: drag over the nodes you want joined, and join them, with no number in between.
