As a software architect I'm using Corel PHOTO-PAINT primarily for creating bug reports and feature requests like this one.
In recent Corel PHOTO-PAINT versions, the 3-color system (stroke, fill, background – see image attached) has been replaced by a 2-color system (foreground, background). Now, for my daily work, I'm forced to permanently select colors back and forth in the swatches.
The 3-color model was exactly what kept me using Corel PHOTO-PAINT for more than 30 years. Otherwise I could have simply used the Microsoft Paint applet that's providing a 2-color model. Turning away from the 3-color system requires more effort on my behalf and is bringing a significant penalty to my workflow.
I comprehend that other workflows may have different needs and that other users have found the 3-color-model approach too complex to handle.
However, I'm now forced to stick with CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X8 because the new 2-color-model significantly impedes my daily work (which is covering more tasks than merely spending my time on creating explanatory screen shots).
Instead of changing the 3-color-model to a 2-color-model for all users, it would have been preferred (and a snap for Corel programmers) to add an option in Preferences for switching between these two systems, so the user may choose which color system to use.
If the 2-color system would have been preferred by the user, it would just require a few lines of code in the PHOTO-PAINT program code to fulfill such option: Hide the third swatch and keep background/fill colors synchronized by updating both color properties at the same time.
So, Corel, please update Corel PHOTO-PAINT to revert back to the 3-color system and add a Boolean option to the Preferences dialog that, when selected, hides the third swatch and syncs background/fill color. This will then be functionally equivalent to the current 2-color system. (And is probably exactly what's currently implemented anyway.)
