2024 Version PAINT crashed while working with a mask

Background: Just this morning downloaded 2024. A crash resulted in losing a lot of work. I was manipulating a mask, firstly it wouldn't move, then a couple of cursor flashes and crash. I hadn't customised yet and 'assumed' that a file would be as least save in a Temp File - but no. I guess lesson learned is IMMEDIATELY customise Auto-backup and location.
