Data Merge with images and/or attributes

It would be great to have a data merge tool that could apply different attributes, instead of just text (i.e. colors, size, coordinates, line/fill styles or even replace a placeholder with a named symbol or imported image).

There are many freeware tools that do this, like NanDeck, and there are even plugins for GIMP and InkScape to enable this.

Ideally, the data merge should be able to create 1 set of page(s) per merged record, and/or tile merged objects in a single page.
