    KLAUS, PROBLEM SOLVED.

I narrowed it down to a font issue which I think I reported to you and a Support Tech.

Your Tech, Ameer Aukloo, got back to me with instructions on how to reset the Corel Font Database.

Id think this should be inyaface somewhere and make it public but up to you.

    The fabulous Ameer Aukloo says:

Please note that resetting the Font Database of CorelDRAW should fix the issue.

    To reset do the following:

Note: Font collections that you've added in the Font Manager will be gone in this process.

Hit Windows key + R to open Run command Type %appdata% and press Enter Open the Corel folder Right-click the Database and choose Rename Change the name to Database.old Hold down the F8 key on the keyboard.

With the F8 key depressed, launch Corel Font Manager.

     The following message will appear:

Choose the settings that you want to restore Select both and click ok

My thanks for your discussion and encouragement, and being there.

I have to go do some Corel drawings.

Oh, in CFSX8 on Windows 11 still working fine although I will consider upgrading (when Specials are offered!)

    Regards, Andy Lidgard.

Klaus. It gets worse or better, Im not sure which. New test drawings created in Trial CD Std 2021 with 4 objects only, opened just fine in Trial CD Std 2021. Add 1 character of text and Trial CD Std 2021 will not open that cdr. Its solely a font problem regardless? of what version of CorelDraw. Any ideas?

Klaus, I may have had a breakthrough! Lt me just say that I understand that CGSX89 is not compatible with Win11. Ive got it. Thats fine. Now. I have used CGSX8 on my Win11 laptop, almost every day, since it was brand new in Feb 2022 without a glitch. It worked fine on 5th Feb 2023. It didnt work on 6th Feb 2023. Since then neither CGSX8, Trial CGS2021, Trial CD Std 2021 nor Trial CGS2022 will open any existing CDR file drawn in CGSX8. So I thought. I just created some test drawings. A CGSX8 cdr with 1 object, then 2 then 3, then with an imported Google Earth image and then with an imported photo all the above programs open them. If I add 1 single character of text, none of the above programs open it (the CDGX8 cdr with text). Any ideas? A Corel issue with fonts? A issue of the TRIAL versions with fonts? My laptop? Closest Ive been to understanding what my problem is. If I buy the full version I only need CD Std 2011 have never used all the extras since Corel v3 will it open my CDRs with Fonts?

Klaus, Can I ask you what I think is a pretty straight forward question. Same question I have asked several Support Techs and had ambiguous answers or no answer. I am using a laptop running Windows 11. 1. Should the TRIAL version of Corel Standard 2021 open my CGSX8 CDR files? 2. 1. Should the TRIAL version of CGS2021 open my CGSX8 CDR files? 3. 1. Should the TRIAL version of CGS2022 open my CGSX8 CDR files? Neither open my CGSX8 files. I have followed all the suggestions by the 2 Techs that did offer reasonable support but nothing works. Using TRIAL versions, I cannot open a single existing CGSX8 CDR file. I thought Id try the TRIAL version of each before updating from CGSX8 but no TRIAL works. CGSX8 on a Win10 laptop works fine so I may have to revert to Win10 and stay with my CGSX8. On a second laptop running Win10, CGSX8 works perfectly. BTW. CGSX8 works on Windows 11 but will not open the file it just created!! Thanks in advance. You appear to be the only Support Tech worth talking to. Congratulations.

Thank you for sharing your experience with varying feedback from Customer Support - we are looking into that.

CorelDRAW 2022 (and CorelDRAW 2021) support older version CDR files (i.e., you can open those CDR files as fully editable files in the newer version). Depending on the CDR file version you may be asked to update text (to support enhancements to text objects when you save the file from the newer CorelDRAW version).

"Both CD2021 and CD2022 after first install, opened several CDRs once, then never again." - that's what indicates there is a problem with your installation of the product(s), and that is for Corel Technical Support to troubleshoot ("offering repair suggestions" would be part of that).

BTW: In the recent CorelDRAW versions you can save CDR files back to any version down to (incl.) X5 (from 2010), i.e., you can also save files to X8 in case you need to open it again with the old version. When saving backwards you may be prompted to decide whether elements using previously non-supported functionality should be converted for accurate visual representation (which typically means elements might be converted to a group of more simple shapes that can become difficult to edit), or if you want to keep objects fully editable (which may result in certain elements looking slightly different in the old version that is not aware of the new functionality).

It is indeed a case for Tech Support and they are involved, on several fronts. However, I now have conflicting responses re BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY. One Tech says, very clearly, there is NONE. (Wow. That sent me reeling!) Several other Techs are offering repair suggestions and suggestions to purchasing the update, which would make me think there is, or they expect there to be, backward compatibility. I have just asked the latter Techs to answer plainly, "is there backward compatibility CD2021 and CGS2022 with CGSX8". Can I ask the Community?? Has anyone actual real experience opening CGSX8 cdr files in CD2021 and/or CGS2022? Is it possible or am I wasting my time, and the Techs time? I am more than happy to update IF I can open my old cdr files. My experience with the Trial versions of CD2021 and CGS2022 : there is no backward compatibility. I even have trouble opening CD2021 cdr files in CGS2022.

    Hi Andrew,
this sounds indeed like a case for technical support to troubleshoot this.

While CorelDRAW X8 is out of support you mention that you experience the same problems with CorelDRAW 2021 and 2022 (the current product release). Did you reach out to CorelDRAW Support via www.coreldraw.com/support with regards to the problem experienced in recent versions on the Windows 11 device? Support may need more details to provide help for troubleshooting that situation, but it's definitely not a common scenario for CorelDRAW 2021 or 2022 not opening CDR files. CorelDRAW 2021 or X8 (or any other older version) will not open CDR files created/saved in the latest CorelDRAW 2022 releases, but that will still typically result in a warning message to show up when you try to open such a new file with an old application version - not a never-ending file open process.

I cannot open a single existing CDR file with CGSX8 (OK, I get it it's now unsupported despite working perfectly in Windows 11 for the last year), but neither can I open ANY cdr in CD2011 or CD2022 (including cdr's created in CD2021). Both CD2021 and CD2022 after first install, opened several CDRs once, then never again. No messages. Just the hourglass sitting. Task manager End Task is the only way of terminating the process and CD. Support just tell me CGSX8 is not supported by Win11 - but it works fine - but as of LAST week, will not open any CDR. BUT neither will CD2021 or CD2022. Any ideas out there/ Perhaps Community Support works?
